Call for Expressions of Interest for a Research Fellow in Economics

The Department of Economics and Law of the Sapienza University of Rome is going to hire one research fellow (assegnista di ricerca) in the context of the project ‘Equality of opportunity and social mobility: measures, drivers and impacts’, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (PRIN 2022) and coordinated by the Department of Economics and Finance of the University of Bari.

The project will pursue four related objectives:

1. providing theoretical insights about equality of opportunity (EOp), how it evolves along the individual life-course and how it relates with the intergenerational mobility process;

2. inquiring macro correlates and effects of intergenerational mobility and EOp;

3. carrying out empirical analysis on intergenerational mobility, siblings correlation and EOp, also investigating the evolution over-time and over the individual life-course;

4. shedding light on various steps of the intergenerational transmission process – with a particular attention on the educational step – also identifying possible drivers of this process.

Pre and post-doc candidates with background in Economics, Statistics and Social and Sciences will be considered.

The position (based in Rome) is expected to be for a duration of 12 months, renewable for an additional 12 months, starting by the beginning of 2024. Ideal candidates should have experience with microdata analysis and econometrics. Candidates with a strong expertise in the empirical analysis of issues such as inequalities and labour market outcomes will receive special consideration. Monthly net salary will be around 1,700 euros.

The project is coordinated by Vito Peragine (Bari University) and involves two research units led by Michele Raitano (Sapienza University of Rome) and Paolo Barbieri (University of Trento).
